Buenos Aires - English

I lived in Buenos Aires since I was little, and these are the tips I have for your stay in ‘the city of fury’

Where do i stay?
I recommend you choose the areas of Palermo or Recoleta. They are safe, tourist areas and with many public transport nearby.

Why not San Telmo?
Although you will surely visit it, to stay is very far from many tourist sites, besides it is not a safe area, especially at night.

How to get around the city?

I recommend public transport, it is safe, cheap and you can move around the city. To use it you will have to buy a ‘sube’ card at a kiosk and charge money at the kiosk (drugstore) or at the subway stations.

To know what means of transport to use to get from point A to point B, I recommend using Google maps with the option ‘how do I get there’ will give you the information of what means of transport take you to that place.

If you prefer to use a taxi, I recommend Uber or Cabify applications. Do NOT use street taxis, they are not friendly with tourists and sometimes they will want to take advantage of you or even cheat you.

What places to visit:Micro centro:

Av corrientes: It is a very important avenue with many theaters and the best pizzeria in Buenos Aires ‘Guerrin’.
Price: free, except pizza, but I recommend it is very tasty.

Obelisco: A highly recommended stop is right in the middle of 9 de Julio Avenue (the widest in Latin America)
Price: free, you will be able to see it from outside and take photos.

Teatro Colon:
It is the largest classical music theater in Buenos Aires and inside it is a beauty. I recommend that you buy the ticket in advance online (if you go the same day you will not get and you will waste time). The tour is totally worth it

The ticket price is:
General admission: $ 1000 | * $ 800
Residents in Argentina: $ 500 | * $ 400 (must present ID)
Retired and University (only Argentine residents): $ 250 | * $ 200

Children under 7 years: They do not pay (they must withdraw their ticket at the ticket office)  Persons with disabilities with a companion: Do not pay (must present certificate) *

SCHEDULES WITH DISCOUNT: MONDAY TO SATURDAY FROM 9 AM TO 11 AM AND 3:30 PM TO 5 PM AND SUNDAY DURING ALL DAY.

You can buy tickets at https://visitascolon.tuentrada.com/list/otherProducts

Casa Rosada:
I highly recommend this visit. I am from Argentina and recently I visited it. Price: it's free! But it is important that you book a place online well in advance and carry the printed ticket along with your passport. You can make the reservation at https://visitas.casarosada.gob.ar/

Cck museum:
Formerly this museum was the city's post center. Now it is a very large and beautiful museum that always has very interesting exhibits.

Price: free, in very few exceptions there are specific samples that are paid, but you will be able to access the museum without problems.

Puerto madero: It is very nice to walk in the afternoon. But not to eat, everything is usually very expensive.
Price: free.

San Telmo market: I recommend that you visit the San Telmo area during the day, as it is not very safe. In this market you will find antiques and handicrafts. In the middle there is a well-known coffee (not cheap at all) but where you can have a drink.

Price: visiting the market is free.

La boca:  Although it is not in the microcentro, you can start your tour here or do it at the end of the micro centro zone.

To arrive you can rent a tour or go on your own with the‘ 152 ’bus that goes to the Boca. The area is safe in "tourist" hours in the morning and part of the afternoon (I don't recommend going too late).

If you can get a free walking tour it is better, because the area has a lot of history. Very close there is also the bombonera (very important football stadium of the ‘Boca juniors’ team)

Price: it is free to walk around the area. The food is usually quite expensive

Recoleta:
Grand splendid: It is a very large bookstore that looks like a museum. As much as you are not interested in buying a book, I recommend visiting it for a moment since it is very pretty.

Price: free. Inside there is a coffee in case you want to drink something

Recoleta cementery: It is one of the best known cemeteries in Buenos Aires, where very important heroes are resting.

Price: entering is free, but I recommend you get a tour to understand a little more about the history and myths of the place.

Take a drink around Recoleta cementery: Keep in mind that none of the places around the cemetery are the cheapest, but there are many bars in front that have very nice terraces for drinks at sunset.

I recommend that before entering, ask if they have a terrace and place available at that time.

Bellas artes museum: It is a very nice museum that is on your way through the area. I recommend it if you like museums.

Price: free

Law university: You will only be able to see it from the outside, but there are many people who like to walk around that area.

Price: free

Metallic flower: It is right next to the law school. It is a large park with the flower in the middle

Price: free.

Arte decorativo museum:
It is one of my favorite museums in Buenos Aires along with the Cck. The interior is very nice and has a beautiful park outside for photos. At the entrance you will see a very nice cafe to eat or drink with a view of the museum.

Price: free

Palermo:

Rosedal de Palermo/ Palermo lakes: It is a large park where people go to do physical activities or walk. When it's rose season, the surrounded is a very nice place to walk. I recommend you go in the afternoon if it is summer because it is usually quite hot.

Price: free

Very close to the Rosedal you will see some brick arches where there are many restaurants. I recommend it to eat or drink.

Botanic garden:  It is a very large park in the heart of the city. If you like walking into green places, I recommend it

Price: free.

Palermo soho: It is one of the places I like least in Buenos Aires (they are graffiti streets surrounded by restaurants and shopping centers), but there are people who like to walk there.

Price: free
